Hi,

I am very interested in starting with Contax 135 system. Actually, I am using Contax 645 but it is too bulky to carry around if I just want to walk around and look for photo opportunities with it.

I am not sure if I should get the Arix, RX (Man Shing still carry it) or RX II.

And for the lens, is 35/1.4 much better than the 35/2.8?

ai.... so many questions in my mind....

G system? I prefer manual focus lens or auto/manual focus lens....

N system? As I don't need zoom lens, I think N only has limited choice of lenses. The N lenses use big filters and I don't think my Cokin P series can fit in. The manual focus "feel" of Contax 135 is much "better" than the N also...

Thanks for reply. Well, regarding about budget, I think as long as I buy it from Man Shing and with the 24 months interest free monthly installment scheme, something about $15000 should be fine.

Second handed equipment? It really depends on the condition la.

You raise a very good question on what kind of picture I take the most. Actually, I will still use my Nikon gears on fast action type photos and those zoom lenses really work.

And I am looking for an affordable system with great photographic quality (I really love Zeiss lenses) so that I can take picture of “feature 小品” type. Recently, I am taking many B&W photos (develop and print by myself) with my Contax 645 but it often become too heavy for me especially when I just go out and walk around to look for photo opportunities. I also love to use a 24mm lens and even wider ones which the Contax 645 cannot offer.

我個人睇法就係body可以平平地買Aria, 由其係我估你想要d輕do既器材! 咁鏡就可以考慮以下:
1. 35f1.4
2. 135f2.8 (由其你好多時候影黑白野多!)
3. 50f1.4 (must buy la)
4. budget 多小小可以買埋 25f2.8...
如果以上全部買2手就很定$1萬5蚊可以ok....

如果唔係就1機2鏡買新o既 Rx ii + 25 + 35f1.4玩住先...

1. I like RXII, too but Man Shing still have RX and even more expensive than the RXII, what do you think which one is better?

2. I also think 35/2.8 is not fast enough. Too bad that Contax does not have 35/2 but Contax G has wor.... but is the 35/1.4 really much better with the more expenisve price?

3. Why "135f2.8 (由其你好多時候影黑白野多!)" is so good for B&W, I seldom use 135mm myself.

4. I really want the 25/2.8 also.

5. Regarding second hand Contax, I have gone to Tin Cheung and 照相館 but the price of second hand lenses are not that cheap comparing with Man Shing's new ones. So is there any better place to buy second hand Contax that you recommend?

Regarding the RX or RXII, do you think the Digital Focus Indicator (DFI) function useful? You know la, as I am getting old.... my eye will not as good as before la....

RXII supposes allowing light quantity to be increased by approximately 20% compared with that of RX but I hardly see the difference after playing with the two cameras at Man Shing law.

I think I will get a 25/2.8 and 35/1.4 first.

Maybe I will go for the 18/4 later.

Regarding portrait lens, do you think the 100/2.8 Macro can perform as well as the 85/1.4 and/or 100/2? I am thinking that maybe I can have "one chicken two dishes" ar.

As someone posted in other thread, I should wait for the coming Photokina to see if there is any news from Contax although I really doubt if they have anything new to announce.

自己曾經有過RX, 覺得DFI係有等於冇............. 如果要AF, 我就會買AX!

買100F2.8影女仔O既話, 我驚你會比佢地打 (說笑)....
100F2.8係一枝出奇地高解像o既鏡頭 (不過唔係硬同利), 如果係影o既係小品式人像或影親都係美女, 100f2.8係不二之選! 但係如果你成日有時影美女但係又會影d比較普通o既女性, 100f2係好選擇. 又如下下影o既都係比較 o既女性, 85f1.4就最好......

I am a bit confused here. Actually, I saw someone also said this on the comparsion between the 85/1.4 and 100/2. Are you trying to say that 100/2.8 is too 解像力高 that will make any facial imperfection appear on the film (this also happen to Hassy 120mm macro len)? And 100/2 also has good 解像力 while 85/1.4 is more 柔?

How about any comment of the Contax 645's 140/2.8 ar?

hmm... actually 85/1.4 is cheapest among these three lenses but I really dobut if it can 把腐朽變神奇....

IMHO go as light as possible with bodies like the Aria or 137 / 139 .. Balance it with smaller lens.

For one, I do not agree with the others. I value tonality and smooth tonal transition and Color reproduction in a portrait or flower and by that account. the Sonnar is better than the Planar. Sonnar will almost always had less contrast, & less resolution while having not so hard an edge accutance against a planar. But likw the famed forebearer of the Sonnar 50 & 85, the current Sonnar are very good at these shoots. I personally prefer my 100, but since its hard to get I would say the 85 or 135 Sonnar do just as well, and the 180 are just gorgeous ( but hard to handhold ).

I too agree the 25 should be included for a package. My Nominal day bag Contax package is Aria + 18/4.0, 25/2.8, 45/2.8, 100/3.5 & 200/4.0 ( or 80-200/4.0 ). Although sounding a lot its still compact and light enough to fit all inside small shoulder camera bag with space to spare.
