28-85 has higher speed and when compare with 28-70 it has better resolution. However, it suffers more serious distortion in 28mm when compare with 28-70. If size is not a matter, 28-85 is better choice. Otherwise 28-70 is more convenience in carrying around.

I pick 28-85 finally because of its performance.

I have both and found them performed when used properly. 28-70 is very much more handy. The 28-85 for my case tends to flare easily when shoot against light.
