Hi,

Sorry, I don't know if this is in the right section, I read contax & Zeiss though, so I'm posting here. I only speak English sorry, so I can't really read any other responses to see if this has been answered already. So if you could answer in English, that'd be really helpful.

Ok, this is my story. I just received two Carl Zeiss Ikon Lenses, a Distagon 18mm F4 lens, and a Schneider Tele Variogon Lens. I'm pretty sure they have the old C/Y Bayonet mount which was from the late 1950's. I was just wondering if anybody knows where I can buy an adapter so I can fit the lenses to a Canon EOS 400D.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sorry, I may have misread something...I think it's the Contarex mounting system on the lens.

This is a picture of it though:

There is no Contarex-to-EF mount adapter as it is mechanically impossible to build one. The only exception is 115/3.5 Tessar. See http://forum.lens-workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=63 for details. The only ready-made adapter for Contarex is for Olympus 43 DSLR which is available from the above website.

I did not know that there is a Tele-Variogon for Contarex. Brother wah, it's your turn.

Dear Ikon,

I suppose you may have your Tele-Variogon modified to M42 screw mount or directly to Canon EF mount. As there is an aperture ring on the lens barrel with no coupling to the Contarex bodies, which facilitates a easier modification work.

For the Distagon 18/4 (as well as other normal Contarex lenses with aperture control from the camera body), you may use it on Olympus 4/3 system bodies only through a tailor-made Contarex to 4/3 system adaptor.

Thanks for your help!

Could you then use a second mount from the Olympus to EF? Or would it not work correctly?

Certainly No!

http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/mounts.htm

The mount register distance for Canon EF = 44.0mm

while for Olympus 4/3 = 38.67mm

We can see that the Olympus 4/3 bodies are the second thinnest among all (the thinnest is Alpa with 37.80 mm).

In any case you can tailor-made one Olympus 4/3 to Canon EF mount adapter, but it would be too thick for the lens to focus at infinity and making it as an extreme macro lens only.
