Thanks, vincent.

Outdoor.
My friend invited me to take some photo of her family,
including her parents and a brother. i.e. 4~5 people.

I will take some quick shots with 135 camera. If possible,
I would like to take some 全家幅 of her family for enlargement
with Hassy. what is your suggestion?

PS: I already have a P80 and S150.

If outdoor, you can stand a bit futher away. Both should not be a big problem. I guess your 80 may work too. For portraiture, you don't want using a very wide lens.

agree! That what I want to point out! Anyway, if you insist, I prefer D60~

For small group photo, Its always preferable to just use the 80 and step back a little bit.

Yes, I did see some excellent group photos (up to 6 ppl) taken with P80. However, I am not sure whether the location for the coming photo session is a totally open area or a rather compact environment. Maybe bringing a wide lens as a backup is safer.

This afternoon, I discuss the matter with a friend and looked through with both D50 and D60. Yet, I am not sure which one suits the task better. D60 seems has little concern about distortion but maybe crampy if the outdoor location is not open enough. D50 seems wider but may include unnecessary background distractions easily. Perhaps only experience by trial and error can help.

Thanks for the valuable input.

My choice would be 60mm also.

60mm is actually the most popular lens by the wedding photographer in US

The 60mm would effectively give more DOF then 80mm...........especially when you need to deal with group pictures of 2 or more rows of people.......

The real concern in group photo is not just the coverage, but the facial render. Usually the wider it gets, the easier to get the people into the pic, but then the price to pay is that the people standing at the edge get distorted and their facial feature would thus render quite unpleasant.

This is always a matter of concern with Wide Angle lens whether one is shooting a group or shooting just a single person. The Perspective of Wide angle just render distortion into the picture.

That is why Short Tele had long been favored for Portrait ( yes and even in group photo ) cause the flattening effect and Defocusing basically insure against these unpleasant facil feature / body posture distortion.

For any formal / semi-Formal Grooup or portrait, its still viable to try to keep it as close to the std or short tele as possible. So D60 should be the choice porivded space demand it. Otherwise I would go for the P80. If D50 is really needed, then I suppose there will need to be a concern about how to position the group instead

thanks, all bothers.
I eventually went to Chinese U. with my P80 only
because my backpack was very heavy.

There are many open areas in CU,
P80 could cover 6-member family shots with ease.
