thought of buying a 501 kit but it seems the 200 series is a more "rational" choice.

203FE was discontinued in 2004 but i guess there are still many new old stocks around town.

could you please kindly advise me the price (new) in shops? thanks in advance.

I think the 500 series is the "rational" choice while the 200 series is the "emotional" choice. You can repair any 500 series camera anywhere but only Hong can repair 200 series. And 200 series cost much much more.

There are no new old stock in HK or anywhere.

Second hand price expect over $20k for 203FE 90% new, body only. Another $5k for E12 back.

Thanks so much for your advice.

Actually I totally agree with your view after hearing what a 203FE would have costed me if it had been available new. It is utterly out of my budget (at most 50k).

I will therefore wait for a reasonably priced 501. THe difference will save me a mint 903SWC.

203FE was already expensive when launched in the market. I bought my 1st set more than 10 years ago. The new price was over 30K for body only.

IMO, if you used to use lenses like C,CF,CFi, it's no need to buy 203FE. As long as you need fast lens or modified lens, then 203FE would be a very good optioned. Never regret !

I don't want to talk you out of buying a 203FE. It is a great camera and the 50/2.8, 110/2 and 150/2.8 are three of the best Hasselblad lenses ever made. What 200 series users are worried about this how much longer Hasselblad will support these cameras. But 2000 series cameras are very reliable so there is no indication the 200 series are less reliable. Perhaps you should consider the 201F. The 201F has no meter but can take all Hasselblad lenses including C, CF, CFi, CFE, CB, F and FE. It still needs the battery for the focal plane shutter but in C mode functions like a 500 series. It is also much cheaper than a 203FE.

Yes I completely agree the AE function if the reason to get into the 200 series. The 201F in C mode is probably more like a 501c/m.

While 201F is a good camera (It was my first 2xx series camera), I found the internal light meter of 202, 203, 205 very useful. They are the only cameras of Hasselblad providing aperture priority feature. It allows me to do hand-held snap shot with my 202FA and 80FE.

Of course, for that case, you need to buy FE lenses to fully utilize this feature. The "E" of FE lens means electronic contacts. They are far more expensive than F lenses. But I regard them to be the best Hasselblad lenses.

I think a even more economic choice is to buy 500 C/M rather than 501 C/M. 501 actually is not that cheap either. The difference is minimal except you use lenses longer than 150mm or you need to use motor winder.

The thought of buying 203FE stemmed from my wish to have only one body which is compatible with all lenses.

I did compare the prices of the 500 and 200 series to see if it's rational to buy a 200 body for all purposes, instead of buying a 202FA with a "spare" 500 body. The price of a second hand set of 203FE + E12 + PM45 is about 23-25k. An "older" set of 205TCC + E12 + FE80 costs about the same. A 501CM kit with CFE is about 15k. So one can see the difference is about 10k.

The drawback of the 200 is sustainability of maintenance services. Also, Hasselblad no longer offers any FE lenses AND CFE lenses. CFE lenses are now changed to CFi (eg CFi80 and CFi120).

Never considered the 500CM. First, lack of palpas (if the difference is perceptible). Second, lack of acute matte. Third, time consuming to "collect" a whole 500CM kit. Fourth, the price difference (a few thousand) between price of a user 500CM kit with 80CF and that of 501CM kit with CFE80 doesn't justify the trouble of pursuing the former.

Anyway, feel regret I didn't buy a brand new FE110 a few years back then when Hasselblad discontinued the series and offered them in bulk to dealers at great discount. They were priced at 14k.
