truth is, IMHO an excuse more than anything .... OK I do accept limitation with older M lens with digital, I do accept that to made those lens be usable with a high end M digital body there need to be compromise, but the problem with the M8 had nothing to do with that. Its a Design fault.

Whoever engineer that sensor combo know at time of inception the IR blocking deficiency, and know that the sensor would return affected value even by the analog stage. There is no step taken to alleviate that, there is no step taken to sidestep that,and not even a software dealing with that after the A/D ....

The sensor had nothing to do whether its on an M body or not .... having a sensor for photographic need but having it wrongly recording data is a primary fault that cannot be in any way excused or even reasoned. PERIOD. Especially not in this days of digital technological knowhow and the price the M8 are asking ...

Mr. if you look at the detail, that is anything but a conclusive remedy. The 30% discount ( from the SRP ) still made a far better profit for Leica since they are now selling to customer direct nstead of dealer price to shops and distributors. Its just a rather scam way to lock more people into the M reign and a PR stink IMHO.

The whole issue about the IR filter and rework do not suggest a solution to end the IR issue altogether, at least it do not look like so. It had also not address the issue of previous M lens. As Leica put it, the M8 is suitable for all M lens that can be put onto it, its designed from the ground up to be so. Now this statement is indirectly saying that only current lens can be supported ....

Sorry, but M8 is not a complete, finished product by any sense !!

Pardon my ignorance, I am not a follower of Leica and have not been monitoring their products lately. I understand that there is already a digital back for R8/R9. I thought the CCD is the same technology or same supplier as the M8. Leica has changed something? I cannot remember hearing much complaints regarding the interchangeable digital back, which by any standard is not cheap anyway.

I think Leica is very clever...now they can make all size of UV/IR filter of various size...give you the first 2 for free...then others selling you by sky high price.....
