http://www.imx.nl/photo/viewpoint/40_le ... enses.htmlSeveral points:
1) Made in Germany, Solms.
(Bye bye, ZM.. kaka.. I just love the name MIG)
This is probably the most popular comment that I can see from the Leica fans upon the release of Summarit-M...............kind of envy for the low price of ZMs?
Let us make a sensible and rational analysis..........the current line of Summarit-M are 35/2.5, 50/2.5, 75/2.5 and 90/2.5
And the respective lenses in the ZM lines are Biogon 35/2, Planar 50/2, C Sonnar 50/1.5 and Sonnar 85/2
The Sonnar 85/2 (if it is really going to be avaliable) would be direct competitor with 90/2 AA...........
75mm is an unique offer from Leica, so Leica M users can only choose from 75/2.5, 75/2 AA or lux 75/1.4
For the battle field of 50mm, the price of Summarit-M 50/2.5 should be around HKD$8000 after discount from list price, while the current market price of C Sonnar 50/1.5 is around $6500 (hong good), Planar 50/2 is around $4800 (hong good), no more water good for Leica (missed Keung Kee so much) and the water good price of ZM can be 10% even lower
So one can see there are entirely 3 different choices. Either $8000 for a MIG but with f/2.5, or $6000 for a MIJ but with 1 1/2 stop faster, or with 50% less of $4000 for a Planar 50/2
The real impact to ZM would be on the 35mm. The ZM Biogon 35/2 should be around $6200 (hong good), while the Summarit-M with just half stop slower would be priced around $10000. It would be struggle for one with limited budget to decide on picking the Biogon 35/2 and Summarit-M 35/2.5 (though there is still $4000 difference)
The best selling ZM lenses are always for the wide-angles (21/4.5, 21/2.8, 25/2.8, 28/2.8 ). Hope to see further action by Leica as well!
Am I being too much Zeiss biased?
