開始發作，請問各位對Leica R9 有咩評價，我其中一樣睇中的是它將來的Digital Back。

其實小弟己玩緊Contax 645 及 Nikon D100, F100，正考慮換走哂Nikon玩多ＤCarl Zeiss，請指教。

I bought a R9 back in Feb 2003. It cost me HK$ 12,400. Now, if you want to buy a R9, it will cost you HK$ 15,800 or more.

I also have a R8, and IMO, the R8 is just as good and for only HK$10,000.00.

I have four lens, 50 f2 rom, 35-70 f4 rom, 135 f2.8 3cam and 180 f2.8 rom. I mostly use the zoom and the 135mm.

I was quoted HK$ 40,000 for the R digital back and I think it is not worth it.

Overall, I like the Contax pictures more than the Leica R. The colour is more saturated and the contrast is better. I have G2 system, N1, N Digital and the 645 so I think I have enough experience on these two system to offer you my advice.

In this case, I would consider that sticking around with the contax system may be a wise decision since I already have some Contax 645 lenses. I can go buy a N1/ND and an adapter NAM-1 to extnd my system.

For Digital, R9/R8 + it's back would cost me $55,800 not including any lense. It shoves my heart out of me.

What's you comment on ND? Can the 645 Lenses be adapted onto it by using the NAM-1?

Do you have samples that I can refer to? Specially ND.

Hi Choyin,

Yes, the ND can function well with the NAM-1 + 645 lens. I have the 35 Distagon and the 80 lens and both work very well.

However, there are problems with the ND. For a 6 megapixel digital camera, it is wonderful as long as you know PS well. You need a fair bit of post processing.

For night shots, you can simply forget it as the noise is very high above ISO 200. Also, even at ISO25, if the exposure is more than 2 secs, the noise is still not acceptable. For day light pictures, I think the ND is much better than any 8 megapixel DSLR out there.

Thanks Shooters ... The results from the ND actually looks quite good under daylight condition. I heard the battery drain is also a big proble though, can you share your thoiughts?

Hi sanfan,

Yes, the battery is an issue with the ND. Fortunately, the 2300 mAh and the newest 2500 mAh Ni-Mh batteries have increased the staying power to an acceptable level.

I use the Sanyo batteries, the 2300 can take roughly 250+ pictures and the 2500 can take close to 400 pictures. I was surprised the 200 mAh difference can give me 100 pictures more.
The picture format is Jpeg1. For raw and tiff, the number of pictures should be less.

Thanks for your further sharing. your pics taken by the ND with Contax lenses are really flirting to me. Specially the 80/2 series. Now I understand more about the ND ability. and will continue to do more study on the Contax "Triangle" system extension. I am really instrested with it.

I will forget about R9/8 and the digital back at this moment.
