Well the rumor around that side of the pond is

- M8-2
- Noctilux 50/0.95
- Elmar 24/3.8
- Summilux 21/1.4
- Summilux 24/1.4

And there suppose to be a Leica announcement next week, and then another the next week fellowing. So I guess its not too long a wait.

Still, One must ask where's the Digital R and the FF solution .... ??

Actually with digital, anti-shake, high ISO, tec. the value of Noct lens is not as much now.

Well I can understand the 24/3.8, its probably made along the like of the 28/2.8 ASPH, making it real compact and at 24mm its good film and digital snap both.

I am also less enthusiastic about those fast lens. Even the 50/1.4 is challenged when needing to focus properly on a 0.85 film based MP or M7. And such lens as these on a M8 is simply asking for trouble as regard focusing.

Still the issue with Leica is that the M is really for handheld and spontaneous shoot and many require available light, but then the M8 had proven being noisy even at ISO 400 and even with RAW. Its likely that also the like of problem with Leica also manifest that they can do a simpler 2.0 lens but they want to be able to price them proper and they simply cannot. Such fast lens allow them to actually charge a premium to be exact.

In the long term though I think this will simply be counter productive to Leica.

I really don't think the ELMAR-M 24 mm f/3.8 ASPH. can be called compact. Say as a f/3.8 rf lens......

What a pity .... I like that 28/2.8 ASPH after having it for a go for some time, compact, lightweight, good image quality, still pricy though. Simply cannot understand how Leica do things these days. They seems to be doing what Zeiss Ikon been doing with their Contarex in the 60's, trying too hard to impress with too much over engineering

Care to check the price of the ZM 50/1.5 C-Sonnar, or the Leica Summilux 50/1.4 ASPH , Its not like that one extra stop of light could really out perform at all ....

Actually Leica do nor survive by the M, if you care to read the last 10 year of their business, they survive on keep finding new investment into the firm and selling product like the DC, Projectors, and the Sport Optics ( Binocular, scope ) ... The camera side had always been a losing battle since way back ...........
