for real, the question to ask is
1. do you shoot RAW, or need RAW in these DC
2. how wide is wide enough for you
3. is IS/VR a must
4. is high ISO needed
5. is manual control needed
6. How much and what kind of Coverage ( lens ) really are needed
to be fair, only after you honestly gauge these to yourself, then you might decide on the matter ...
for a start, I simply do not like the way most of these late generation DC having so much MP, by that I do not mean the MP is bad, its just that they had to sacrifice too much for the MP. The G10 is no exception. The LX3 is only marginally better.
I too want a good compact DC, but after much debate and test, and trying them out, I simply fail to found one that work , so I settle for the Olympus E420 for that is about the slimmest of all DSLR, and a couple of lens for that ...
The Sigma DP1 was , on paper , an enticing alternative, but simply put the camera part of the DP1 is awful, and the Foveon sensor's imaging is still lacking once over ISO 100 ..
For now, there is simply no DC that I can consider serious and quality enough for the need , although if one can keep to base ISO, shoot JPEG only then there is quite a few OK alternatives ( say the G10 or Nikon P6000 )
Thanks for FR dada to provide me the guideline to re-define what I exactly look for..... Thanks a lot.
