I really wonder if Olympus had decent imaging software engineer now, after checking with the Review sample, especially the in camera JPEG , again its more a up to ISO 400 OK camera. The definition just gone missing starting at ISO 800 and also heavy smearing. The noise graph coincide with this finding ( It had higher NR than even the E620 while using the same sensor )
The funny thing is looking at all the RAW sample. the detail is captured, but yes even at ISO 100 there is noise there. Not enough to concern anybody even up to ISO 400, at ISO 800, even the RAW shown Noise speckle , especially the black patch ( typical low zone area, low light , and chroma there also, just when this camera is so wanted !! )
And Oly simply applied heavy smearing + heavy sharpening ... even in the raw software ... So I guess if really needing to use this camera as street snap and casual tools, ISO 800 shoot or above would be go for RAW ( and use good independent RAW developer software )
At least, even with DCRAW ( the best RAW demosiac routine around ) still ISO 1600 can be managed but not any more , the most funny comparison is between all 4/3 sensor camera, the Panasonic GH1 clearly maintain detail and definition right up to 1600 where the E-P1 can only better this at ISO 400. Got to be interesting one ..
Its also funny yo look at the different tone curve that really is not different tone curve and that the E-P1 actually is worse in DR than the E620 ....
Well, pretty much confirm what I suspect all along, if going for the 4/3 , get the E620 , if needing a Micro 4/3 the GH1 is simply better equipment. Guess E-P1 is about the package than the actual image capturing / imaging making as a tool
