But ... well ... read these
Leica Camera AG on S systemLeica Camera Japan about the S systemYou know its so funny to read those pages. On every Leica page except Leica Japan. Leica keep boosting how so and so the S system being Germanic and Leica , where the Japanese page are far more honest and tell actually the whole imaging engine is that of Japanese and by Fujitsu.
Well, they still would not even acknowledge and tell that even the electronic is not anything of theirs ( no surprise ) and not even the Mechanicals. Very funny read on the German press on the matter !!
where does leica boast about the s-system (the lenses and the sensor) being germanic or "leica" in the sense the "leica" produces everything of that system? i think it would be stupid if any manufacturer would ever claim that.
in the silver halide era, with a few exceptions, there was invariably a division of labour between different parts in the photographical process (notably camera bodies, lenses and sensors). one can't simply have a leica picture in the sense that a photograph from start to finish is produced by leica branded/produced stuff,eg a leica screw, leica film, leica print paper, or leica ore/mines from which metallic substance could be extracted for lenses/cameras?
in the digital era, i think it's commonsense that people would acknowledge most camera body/lens makers aren't sensor makers, just as in the silver halide era. corporate activities like mergers and acquisitions would change this a bit superficially but fundamentally i think the broad picture is still the same.
