I am using RX body, is it possible use 54 MZ-4 with canon adaptor under A-mode?

I borrow a MZ-4 with canon adaptor from my friend, and test it with my old Canon G3 digital camera, but the flash had no function under TTL mode, everytime it will fire at full power, I am very confuse now, since G3 can support E-TTL.

Also, the charge up time is super slow, more than 30 sec for 1 photo is that normal?
