Looks quite exaggerating. I guess the damage may depend on where you fly to. Recently my experience tells me that European and South East Asian countries are OK on the scan. In the UK, the custom people even told me that their machine was OK for ISO3200 films.

The site has a list of X ray machine that can fog the film. Of course, not every airport has installed such kind of x ray machine, depends on your luck la!

I agree with lonelyboy. It would be depend on your LUCK.
Last time I went to European and passed the X-ray machine. Finally I have two films got the X-ray fog (like wave inside the film) in my 20 films!! The films almost ISO100 but I don't know why some OK but some NG

When your luggage gets into the machine, the luggage will be stopped for a while and a weak X ray (film safe) will scan your whole piece of luggage to give a full image of your piece of luggage.

However, several high intensity X ray beams (film damaging) will be focus to your luggage to scan the area which is not clearly shown on the weak x ray scan, e.g., metallic objects. This high intensity x ray beam is narrow in shape (just like a laser) and it will leave an exposure all film/photographic paper (no matter what ASA).

So depends on the position/orientation of your film in your luggage, it may/may not have the damage.
