Actually I usually use a Reflective IT-8 Target and photo it using the camera and lens, but its the same thing anyway. There is no secret in the setup, just scan using your scanner setting ( the one you use to scan the same kind of film )

If you have a profile builder software, then fellow through with the steps in the software and build your profile, and all your future scan ( using same film, same dcanner setting ) can then have the profile applied within your PS or photo editing software.

Now most of us do not have one, but the target is still useful, the trick is to learn how much hue shift & saturation / Brigtness is need for correction. The step is pretty simple

0. Before anything you must calibre your monitor and use monitor profile ...

1. save your scanned JPEG twice in 2 files
2. open both, one unchanged, one using the White point, grey point and black point correction in PS to correct the image

3. now put the image side by side, you will see a difference and if you have a hard ( paper ) IT-* target, you can reference that too ( or the slide but its a bit too small )

4. now using the Hue / Saturation / Brigtness control , you can experiment to see how you can made the uncorrected image as close to the corrected image as possible. Drop down the setting, this is your reference setting for correcting any future scan.

Now you can actually use a sample image and try that out and record the correcting procedure as PS action, this action can then be applied to Batch correction. Remmeber this procedure / profile always applied to the same film type & scanner setting, so for every combination of scanner setting / film you must have another set of profile /reference parameters. And these do not ahve anything to do wtih correcting lens color and hue bias. This correct the scanner specific data only. So if you have a lens grossly biased, the scanned and corrected image will still be grossly biased. But to be fair, unless you are in too critical a work, the profile / parameter can get you at least 90%+ all the way and usually for the same film stock need no further input.

Another important one, if you have a few film/lens combination that you always use. then you can actually use the same step for recording an action ( say you always scan using Minolta Dimage IV for your Velvia 100F taken using a Planar 100/2.0 ) ....
