V700 (US$500) and V750 (US$730)
Which one is a better choice? Or F-3200??
Or any other suggestion?
I'm considering investing a scanner. I need good quality. Scanning up to 4x5 (ideally it can scan 617). Budget under HK$6000-7000 (The lower the better, of course!)
I'm still thinking about my own reasoning of getting a scanner. I'm prepared to spend time and effort to make good scans. But I need to rationalize the financial implication.
Professional-level scanning in New York costs US$15 for one 6x6 frame (Nikon scanner). upto 25MB. Drum scan for 4x5 is $45 each (50-60 MB)
The reason I am now considering buying a scanner is that it is hard for me to do any post-processing without a darkroom. I now do color darkroom myself. But the cost, in terms of both time and money, is not cheap anyway. For one single print, which I would eventually satisfied with, usually needs 4 hours and 10 printouts. And usually I will make 4 to 5 good prints afterward. Even for 8x10 paper, 15 pieces of papers mean US$5.25, not calculating the cost of a darkroom.
Therefore, I think I have to migrate to digital darkroom. And in fact, Photoshop provides more functions for post-processing.
In this sense, the cost of a US$500 scanner is about doing 34 frames scanning of a 6x6 in a pro-lab. A US$750 scanner is about 50 scannings.
Does this calculation make sense?
What else do I need for establishing my own digital darkroom? Such as calibrator for the monitor?
I will later invest an Apple iMac with 17 inch, 2G Ram with Photoshop anyway. So computer and software will not be an extra cost.
Welcome any kind of input!!
