I have a Canon 400D and want to buy a Carl Zeiss 50 1.4 lens, I should choose ZF or ZS mount ? I know both lens that I need to use an adapter, But which one I should choose? What is the difference ? is it the same and just depends on what is the next Cameras (M42 or Nikon) I would buy to be compartible with ? ? Does any one using 400D or 30D.....with this lens ? Thank you guys !!

As far as I know, there is only one ZS lens were ever made to the market. (50/1.4 ZS). I'm not 100% sure though, please correct me if I'm wrong.
For me, I would choose ZF over ZS because ZF lens should have higher resell value (in case you want to sell it) base on the user population.

There is ZS25 & 35....

Thank you guys about the valuable comments, actually i wanted to buy the C/Y 50 1.4 before, however it is around HKD2000 (Ebay, Include Shipping) and around HKD2200 in HK Web such as .... you know..... so I think should I better to get a Brand new lens (ZF / Zs) ones ?? I think C/Y 50 1.4 is no brand new now anymore, am I right ???

Other than the cost of the lens itself, there are other hidden costs.

1. Lens mount adapter - a high-quality one will usually cost you $500.

2. Lens hood - it is included in the package of ZF/ZS but you need to buy separately for CY. A 55/86 ring + hood no 3 will cost you another $500.

I cannot see any major difference from the pictures taken by CY50 & ZF50. So either one would be fine. But I am sure that you will get more and more Zeiss lenses later. Then you must consider that CY has a full line-up but is discontinued while ZF/ZS has only a limited choice as of now but it will grow.

If your choice is between ZF & ZS, I would definitely recommend ZF as all ZS have ZF-equivalent but not vice versa.
