IMHO there is no such thing as compatible or not ... just how any individual lens perform. IN fact, its even more so with SLR system; cause no matter how old a lens is. SLR mechanism dictate the lens having a solid rear clearance between lens rear and the sensor. So effectively that means an even more so for the rear foci. The theory of needing optical entries to be almost perpendicular is true but only to a certain extent.
Didn't we see so many old lens being used on DSLR and producing perfectly decent image. Any SAL lens is at least, even for the oldest, vintage late 1980's so that simply does not really matter much
As far as I know about vignetting. that is not actually a problem with old Wide angles lens. In fact even today's digital specific lens wide angle in most case, and zooms had this problem too and not performing any better than old lens.
Old lens is not about whether they are compatible with digital. they are, just do not expect them to perform in a manner that modern digital specific lens perform alike. It's just limitation and specifics to these lens.
